Skin Cancer Screening in Vancouver

Expert-Led Skin Screening, Backed by Technology

At Lifespan Medical, we believe early detection is one of the most effective tools in the fight against skin cancer. That’s why every Mole Mapping appointment is more than just imaging — it’s a comprehensive skin cancer screening led by a qualified physician.

Your visit begins with a review of your medical history and any skin concerns you may have. A full-body skin exam is then performed, using advanced FotoFinder technology to capture high-resolution images of your skin. This non-invasive system, enhanced by artificial intelligence, helps identify subtle changes in moles or lesions over time—often before they’re visible to the human eye.

The doctor will discuss their findings with you in detail, highlight any areas of concern, and if needed, can perform a biopsy or mole removal in-office either the same day or at a follow-up visit. You’ll leave your appointment with clarity, confidence, and a plan tailored to your long-term skin health.

Lifespan Medical is a private clinic and operates on a private-pay model. As such, services provided here are not billed to MSP, and patients are responsible for the cost of the screening.

How We Screen for Skin Cancer at Lifespan Medical

Reviewing Your History and Skin Concerns

Your visit begins with a discussion with our clinical team, where we review your medical history, skin concerns, and any changes you may have noticed. This information helps us understand your risk factors and guides the focus of your screening.

Whether you’ve spotted a new mole, have a personal or family history of skin cancer, or just want peace of mind, we tailor the process to your needs from the start. Once your intake is complete, we’ll move on to full-body imaging.

Mole Mapping with FotoFinder Technology

Mole Mapping is a non-invasive skin screening method that uses high-resolution photography to create a complete visual record of your skin. At Lifespan Medical, we use the FotoFinder system—an advanced imaging platform trusted by dermatologists worldwide—to capture, document, and analyze your skin from head to toe.

Unlike a standard skin check, this approach creates a baseline that can be compared over time to detect even the smallest changes in moles or lesions. It’s especially valuable for individuals with a history of skin cancer, numerous moles, fair skin, or significant sun exposure.

Physician-Led Skin Review and Care

After your imaging is complete, you’ll meet with a physician who specializes in skin cancer detection. They will review your full-body images and also conduct a hands-on visual skin exam to ensure nothing is missed.

This dual approach—merging high-resolution imaging with clinical expertise—helps identify areas that may require further attention. If anything appears suspicious, your physician will explain their findings and recommend next steps. Biopsies or mole removals can often be performed during the same visit, or scheduled at your convenience.

You’ll leave with clear answers, peace of mind, and a personalized plan for your skin health.

    Your Health, Our Answers

Who will I be seeing during my screening?

You’ll be working with both a doctor and a nurse, each trained in preventative care and diagnostic technology. Together, they’ll perform a comprehensive skin assessment using advanced mole mapping and imaging tools designed to detect even subtle changes over time. Their combined expertise ensures precise tracking, early identification of potential concerns, and a clear path forward for your skin health.

What happens if something concerning is found?

If we identify a mole or lesion that looks suspicious, our medical team can perform on-site evaluations, including biopsies, as needed. We’re trained in mole removal and diagnostic follow-up, so you won’t need to wait for a separate referral in many cases. If additional expertise is required, we’ll connect you with a trusted dermatologist or specialist and help coordinate next steps. Our goal is to ensure you receive timely, thorough, and seamless care—all starting right here.

Your visit begins with an intake meeting where our team will review your medical history, discuss any specific concerns, and answer initial questions. Next, we’ll complete high-resolution mole mapping and imaging, which typically takes 30 to 45 minutes.

After your imaging session, we’ll schedule a follow-up review with our medical staff to go over your results, identify any changes or concerns, and outline next steps if needed. This two-step approach ensures your screening is both thorough and thoughtfully reviewed.

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You’ll be asked to undress to your comfort level for a full-body skin assessment. Undergarments can remain on, and private areas are never examined unless you specifically request it.

Yes. Mole mapping uses non-invasive, high-resolution imaging technology to track changes in your skin over time. There is no radiation involved, and the procedure is completely safe and painless.

Your results are kept strictly confidential and are not shared without your consent. If a referral is needed, we’ll discuss the next steps with you and forward necessary information only with your approval.

No referral is needed. You can book directly with Lifespan Medical. Our focus is on making preventative care accessible and easy to schedule — especially if you have risk factors like fair skin, a history of sun exposure, or a family history of skin cancer.

This depends on your personal risk factors. For individuals with fair skin, a high number of moles, or a family history of skin cancer, annual screenings are recommended. During your visit, we’ll help you create a personalized follow-up plan.

This is a private, preventative service and is not covered by MSP. If mole or lesions need removal or biopsied, MSP may cover the costs. Your physician will inform you at the time.

If you are not covered by MSP, you may be required to pay for any removals or biopsies.

Yes — and we encourage it. Skin cancer can develop without visible symptoms. Regular screenings help catch issues early, even if you feel perfectly healthy.

At Lifespan Medical, you’ll receive a focused, in-depth skin assessment using specialized tools and dedicated time. We are one of the four sites in Canada that has a mole mapping machine, which allows us to catch issues before they become problems.

That’s great! Think of this as an additional layer of protection. If you’re at high risk or haven’t had a recent exam, we recommend regular screenings — even if you’ve had one in the past.

Yes. Our exam is designed to identify early signs of the most common skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
